In the late 1970s, Mr Tony Burn and his son Nick became
Joint Masters of a pack of bloodhounds belongiong to Mr Reg Wright. The
hounds were kenneled at Coleshill and the hounds were hunted on foot.
Mr Wright died in 1991 and the hounds moved and became the Staffordshire
Bloodhounds, but they continued to be hunted on foot. In 1999 the hounds
moved again to North Shropshire and became the Burne Bloodhounds and still
hunted on foot. In 2005 a hunt club was formed and Mrs Jan Gratian joined
the Mastership and the 2005 - 2006 season became a mounted pack and hunted
mainly in Derbyshire, but also in parts of Staffordshire, Shropshire and
Warwickshire. The hounds consist of eight couples of bloodhounds, owned
by the Masters and they hunt usually on Sundays, meeting at 12.30pm.

The Readyfield Bloodhounds were formed in 1980 by Peter Boddy and his
son David. They were both given and loaned, 10 hounds from the Isle of
Man and North Warwickshire Bloodhounds. The hounds were first hunted by
the Boddy family in October 1980 at Readyfields Farm, Caunton. The first
Masters were Peter Boddy and Jim Beardsley. The Master and Hunt staff
wear brown a brown collared burgundy jacket with brass buttons initialed
R.B.The hounds are kenneled at Caunton and the pack consists of approximately
25 couple of black and tan hounds.
The country lies in a fifty mile radius of Newark, covering Nottinghamshire,
Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. The meets take place on a
Wednesday and either Saturday or Sunday by invitation of farmers and landowners,
working with the co-operation of local hunts and hunting through some
country which cannot be hunted by foxhounds. A hunting day can consist
of up to 60 fences, of which most are approx. 3' 6".

The pack was created by its current Master, in Scotland in 2002, and
were brought South to their current kennels in Froxfield, Hampshire in
2005, to become the South Downs Bloodhounds. There are currently 16 couples
of hounds and they are owned and hunted by the Master. The Master and
Hunt Staff wear blue coats with mustard collars and silver buttons engraved
with SDB. They also carry white whips to help with identification.
The hunt operates over a varied country in East Hampshire, West Sussex
and South Surrey. The hunt prides itself in concentrating on producing
as natural a hunt as possible and deliberately running on various surfaces
to ensure that there is hound work to see as well as good riding. Some
days will involve jumping and others may have none at all. The hunt tries
to ensure there are routes for non jumpers. Children are welcome and encouraged.
The hunt usually meets on Sundays, with occasional mid week days. After
the opening meet in October, the hounds meet at 12 noon to move off around
12.30pm.

The Southern Shires Bloodhounds were founded in 1994, in a pub called
the George & Dragon, just on the outskirts of Reading. The pack is
currently kennelled at Park Farm, Wherwell and are hunted by their Senior
Master Mr Marc Winchester. The Masters and Hunt Staff wear scarlet coats
with Confederate grey collars and silver buttons. The hounds are kenneled
together with the stabling for the hunt horses. This not only makes it
easier to exercise the hounds from horse back, but also develops familiarity
and trust between the hounds and the hunt horses.
The hunt operates in Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire and tries
to keep the hunting as natural as possible. Jumping varies from none at
all, to days full of jumping, it will always depend on where the quarry
goes. Jumps takes the form of natural hedges, ditches, walls, post and
rails and rivers. There are always ways around for the novice rider or
horse, so everyone attending can still enjoy "the chase". There
is a non Jumping field master nominated each week for those not wishing
to jump. The Southern Shires Bloodhounds meet Sundays at 12.00 noon moving
off at 1230. There are occasional bye days.
