There can be no better example of a country pub than the Pub With No Name. This is the hounds "local" and the mounted and foot followers were generously provided with refreshments by Georgie and Paul Stuart. Regular Quarries Nick and Richard Hoare, and Nick Hudson, were joined by another first timer, Jeff Lynne. The weather was good, and ideal conditions to enjoy the beauty of the Rotherfield Estate.
Our first hunt started opposite Penny Hill with hounds running towards Monks Lodge, before turning through the woods and down to Lye Farm. Hounds ran well on stubble between Lye Wood and Slade Farm, catching their Quarry up by the entrance to Holtham Lane.
The second hunt started on Mr Mitham's farm, by the T junction near Goleigh Manor, with hounds running just short of Cuckoo Copse, where they crossed the road up to King’s Farm. Our Quarry doubled back by Charity Farm, where they had to take avoiding action when a dog chased them! It was interesting to see how this affected the hounds ability to hunt them at this point, and they had to be helped to regain the line and run below Bridleway Copse and Hale Copse, to catch their Quarry on the opposite side of the road to Heards Farm.
The final hunt started up opposite Keyham Farm drive, with hounds running above Lye Wood, to the edge of Goleigh Wood. Skirting round the outside, hounds eventually ran through the narrow track down to the fields below Monks Lodge. From here the hounds ran back up the valley to Lye Farm, where they caught their Quarry. This was a very fast hunt, with most of the Field struggling to keep up.
