The Birth of The Borders Bloodhounds

On 1st May, around 70 people assembled in the barn at Reedy Loch, to celebrate the birth of the Borders Bloodhounds. Whilst the main purpose of the evening was just to celebrate the formation of the new hunt, over £1000 was raised in subscriptions to the hunt, supporters club membership and hound sponsorship.

Jeremy Whaley MBH welcomed the assembled company and thanked the many people who have played a part in getting this new venture off the ground. In particular Joint Masters, Christine Lady de la Rue and Doreen Calder; Hunt President, The Lady Palmer; Honorary Hunt Secretary Ann Shaw ; Supporters Club Chairman, David Law and Supporters Club Secretary Jennifer Murtagh; were thanked for taking on their roles within the hunt. David Law and Les Turnbull were also thanked for agreeing to continue as Quarry Captains for the new hunt. A presentation was made to Adam Law as a token of the hunt's appreciation to him for putting so much work in helping to get Reedy Loch ready for the hounds.

Hunt President, The Lady Palmer, also thanked everyone for taking such an interest and active roles within the hunt and spoke of her great optimism for the future.

The Supporters Club is now well organised and supported and, despite the fact that the hunt at the end of the evening was less than 24 hours old, they have over 40 members. Under the Chairmanship of David Law, with Jennifer Murtagh as Secretary, they already have a number of events planned. The first of these is a Cross Country Ride at Ellemford, near Duns, over the beautiful Lammermuir Hills.

The hunt also has a Fund Raising Committee and they too are working on a number of events, details of which will be revealed soon.
