The Future of the Bloodhounds

At the Opening Meet on October 4th 2003, Senior Joint Master & owner of the bloodhound pack, Jeremy Whaley, announced he would not be able to continue in office for the 2004 -2005 season. He explained that this was because he was having to relocate to the south of England in order to maintain contact with his 5 year old son. Jeremy made it quite clear that he would like to see the Borders Bloodhounds continue and would do all he could to help including giving the hunt a "guaranteed" loan of hounds. Since this announcement it has not yet been possible to find anyone to take over his role, although some possibilities are now being considered.

Jeremy has decided to try and ensure that one way or another the pack continues by trying to set up a new bloodhound hunt in the south of England. If the Borders Bloodhounds find it possible to continue Jeremy will divide the pack and loan hounds to the Joint Masters of the Borders Bloodhounds Hunt on an annual agreement. This agreement would guarantee the hunt hounds to use for as long as the hunt wishes to continue. The aim would be to hand over the ownership of those hounds to the hunt once it is well established. Jeremy said "I have spent the last two years building up the pack of bloodhounds and training them to work as pack and it has quite literally cost me blood, sweat, tears, pain, time and money; I would like to ensure they have a future either with me in the south and/or with The Borders Bloodhounds. This venture has been too succesful to let my personal problems destroy the pack".
